National Women’s Health Week 2011 empowers women caregivers to make their health a top priority in 2011 and take steps to improve their physical and mental health. Out of the estimated 65 million people who provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member, approximately 66% of family caregivers are women. National Women’s Health Week provides a great opportunity to review one’s health care needs and goals, incorporating tools and activities to promote wellness, and taking time to indulge in self-care.

A recent article in San Diego Magazine discussed the special needs of women when it comes to health. It is reported that more than 30 percent of the population is overweight, and cardiovascular disease is still the number-one killer of women. The daily responsibilities that women juggle constantly can lead to poor self-care and diet.
